Title: “Visitors Safety at Haverhill North Coke Company”
Location: Haverhill, OH
Delivery: DVD with custom artwork and packaging
Background Information
Sunoco, the international power and fuel giant, expanded into the coke-producing industry with its $140 million coke-making facility in Haverhill, Ohio. The new facility supplies 550,000 tons of coke (a fuel made from coal) annually to International Steel Group and attracts other coke facility investors from around the world to see the new facility.
The Challenge
With an increase in visitors to the plant from across the country and around the world, concerns about visitors’ safety began to arise. Many of the visitors had never been to a coke plant, and although they understood there are safety risks, they did not necessarily know what was expected of plant visitors. Safety managers realized that the new plant needed a streamlined, cost-effective process to educate visitors about potentially dangerous areas in the plant.
Artisan3's Solution
After an initial consultation with the safety department, Artisan3 suggested an eight-minute safety video that would highlight safety requirements to visitors. In order to make the video entertaining, Artisan3 suggested a custom intro with music and special effects. A variety of actors would explain standard procedures in and around the coke ovens. Artisan3 also proposed a high-energy music track and professional narrator to help hold viewers’ interest.
Final Product
The final video incorporates footage from around the plant to makes visitors familiar with certain areas. Instructions about machines and restricted areas were highlighted using graphics. The final music, voiceover work, and mixed-media introduction capped off an informative and entertaining final video that showcased the facility while informing the audience about the importance of safety at a coke plant.
